Many years ago a friend from Proti handed Christos a cd of local songs. It turned out to be a field recording of villagers singing typical songs of the day, accompanied by two musicians and a chorus of children and other locals. We found it to be a beautiful snapshot of the people and music of Proti Serron and the surrounding area. It was sentimental also because the collector dutifully recites the names of the singers and many of them are known to us and have since passed on. We dreamed of creating a similar recording to share the tunes and keep some of the songs alive. These are those songs. We have tried to stay as true to the original intent of the music as possible and hope that we have captured some of its sweetness.

The recordings, mixing and mastering were done in the basement over a period of four months. We overcame reproduction obstacles that prevented the timely release of the CD for Mendocino’s Balkan music and dance camp in early July. Καλιο ὰργά παρά ποτέ...
