Itinerary

Participants will find their own ways to Proti in Northern Greece. Proti is easily accessible by bus or taxi (approx. $90 for the cab) from Thessaloniki and is located near Drama and Serres, both mid-sized cities. It is also quite close to the Bulgarian border if anyone has additional travel plans to the north. We will spend seven nights and six days enjoying the hospitable village of Proti. Each day will include one three-hour cooking (and eating!) session with an additional day-trip included. We will visit Lazaridhes winery near Drama, go to the open market in Drama, take an herb-gathering stroll on mount Pangeo, visit a local fish-farm, and other fun excursions. We will learn the soon-to-be-lost art of making home-made fillo pastry, as well as how to stuff grape leaves, make spoon-sweets, roast meat, and make delicious dips and spreads, all in the homey environment of Eleni Govetas’ kitchen and back porch. We may even get her outdoor oven up and running! Let us know if you have any special requests and we will make every effort to include them in our itinerary.
